The Thread’s founder, John Harrison, is an award-winning filmmaker and photographer based in Spokane, Washington, who has been creating human-centered documentary projects for more than 15 years. He is an expert in a variety of production roles, including directing, editing and cinematography, and has produced projects on multiple continents and in partnership with members of diverse communities and cultures. His portfolio of professional work is representative of his commitment to sharing stories told by members of historically marginalized and oppressed communities and creating art that inspires a sense of compassion and awe through human connections.
His work as director, cinematographer, and editor has screened at many of the world's most prestigious film festivals and received numerous honors, including an Academy Award nomination (Kavi, Best Live-Action Short Film, 2010), two Student Academy Awards, and jury prizes from SXSW and the Tribeca Film Festival.
