JOHN HARRISON

I am an award-winning documentary filmmaker and educator based in Spokane, Washington. My portfolio includes work as director, producer, cinematographer, and editor, including an Oscar-nominated short film, two Student Academy Award winning films, recognition by the United Nations, and Jury Prizes from SXSW and Tribeca Film Festival. I am known for my poetic, art-forward style and calm, collaborative presence on set.

With over 15 years of experience spanning both documentary and narrative film, I have worked across four continents and collaborated with crews large and small. Whether it’s filming in the CEO’s corner office, on a Hollywood sound stage, or from my knees on a small-plot maize field in Central America, I bring an eye for cinematic images to every project and know how to capture the kind of concise and emotionally complex material that editors love. My process prioritizes compassionate curiosity and aims to re-center the narratives of individuals and communities who have historically been marginalized.
